**NEW THIS YEAR** Due to the limitations of people in the facility, the meet will be limited to the first 425 athletes in the meet. If you fail to enter before the limit is reached, you will not be permitted in the event.

Indoor Track and Field is not an officially recognized sport in the state of Tennessee and all athletes who qualify must represent club teams as listed in the procedures detailed below.  We hope that this meet will continue to grow in years to come and give those who love indoor track and field in Tennessee an opportunity to be recognized for their accomplishments.

Online entries will open 12/21/20. All entries and fees must be received online only by Tuesday,  February 9, 2021.  Entry Fee is $30.00 per athlete. All entry fees must be paid online via credit card prior to acceptance unless paying via school issued check. There are no entry refunds or entry fee changes for scratched athletes or no-shows past the entry deadline of February 9, 2021. All entries submitted without payment by the entry deadline may be scratched.
Entry is limited to the first 425 athletes in the meet. Due to limitations of size of the event by the facility, we cannot expand above this limit.
This a USATF Open Meet for High School Athletes.  Only athletes that have met the qualifying criteria listed in the “qualifying procedures” will be accepted. The Tennessee State High School Indoor Track and Field Championships will be contested for athletes who are currently in grades 9-12. 8th graders will only be considered if they have “run up” in the 2020 cross country season.  The maximum number of events any single athlete may compete in (Running, Field and Relays) is three.  Relays Teams will only be considered if they are comprised of athletes from the same high school.

  2. Spectators must sit more than 6 feet from people not in their household.

Meet Contact Information

Why is the meet on a Monday?
This was the only option available at any site we looked at that made any sense. The Crossplex deals with stakeholders on a 3 year contract so we could not have had a weekend unless someone elected not to have a meet. Thankfully it is Presidents Day so we hope that it allows many to compete!
How many will be allowed in the meet?
425 athletes will be permitted in both meets for a total of 850 athletes all day. 425 in the morning session and 425 in the afternoon.
Why only 425?
The Crossplex currently only allows 950 in the building at a time. By allowing 425 we can allow everyone to bring 1 spectator and still have room for coaches, meet staff and volunteers. We could certainly expand the total athletes but that would eliminate or limit spectators and we felt it was important to allow everyone to have someone.
Who qualifies?
Both meets will be first entered-first served. First 425 athletes entered are in. Of course this is not the ideal way to do a meet of this caliber for sure but it is the simplest way with so few meets to qualify for high school athletes we felt this was the best way to do it this year. Future years will see a return to having to qualify via mark.
What about seeding?
Verified marks from the current winter season will be accepted. Read below regarding Polar Bear meets. You may enter with no mark. It is all about being one of the first to enter.
What about Polar Bear Meets, can those be used for seeding?
We hope to! We are working on using the Athletic.net system and their app to allow people to verify marks at Polar Bear meets. More to come.
Is this one big meet or two smaller meets?
Two smaller meets. Due to trying to keep the size of the crowd to a simple number within their guidance, the meet will be two separate events. TN HS Indoor Championships will be in the morning and the Southeast Showdown in the afternoon.
What if I have a whole family of 10 who want to watch?
Unfortunately the most fair way to maximize the amount of athletes without eliminating spectators altogether is to permit everyone 1 spectator. With enough heads up, we hope your families can plan appropriately. More details on this to come as well.
Will the meet be live streamed?
YES! Runnerspace will return to cover our indoor meet. We will also be using live field event results along with the normal live results as well.
When can we register?
Registration for both meets will open on 12/21/20. We know this is the week of Christmas but with a week heads up, you should have time to look at your schedule, get the word out and start to get a poll of your team. Registration will open at 9AM EST. If you received this email, you will also receive an invite through Athletic.net which will be the registration system.
Do we have to pay right away?
Once the meet fills up, the registration will close to all others. If you are paying via school check, you can mail it or bring it to the meet . All others (including AAU/USATF clubs) must go ahead and pay with card to lock your entry in. If the registration closed for one of the meets more than 1 week in advance of the deadline (2/9/21) then you would have 1 week to pay after the registration is closed due to being full or you risk losing your spot. Otherwise, the payment deadline is the same as the entry deadline (2/9/21). Again, this does not affect teams paying via school check. They are fine to bring that. However, we don’t want someone to just fill up a bunch of spots and take away from athletes who would actually come. Do NOT enter athletes speculating their desire to come. You need to try to firm their commitment up before entering them. If there is evidence of a team entry dumping (entering extra kids who they do not expect to actually run) than I have no problem excusing your team from the meet. In these days especially, be respectful of everyone and be honest with your entries.
How much is the registration?
$30 per athlete. Our normal model was per event. Due to the nature of a set number of athletes, we felt a per-athlete charge was going to be more appropriate here. You will be limited to no more than 3 events including relays (even if they don’t run). With what we plan to be a 4 hour schedule, 3 events may be aggressive for an athlete. Plan accordingly. Try not to enter a bunch of events you don’t plan on running as it takes away from others.
Gate Fee?
$12/person. 1 spectator per athlete. We are working on a pre-pay option as well to save them time that morning. Teams will be given coaches passes at a ratio of 1 coaches pass per 6 athletes. Any above that will need to purchase a spectator pass as long as they are available. We do hope to have a VERY limited amount of additional spectator passes available but won’t know that for awhile.
What is the meet schedule?
Generally speaking, the TN state HS Indoor Championships should be from 9A-1P and the Southeast Showdown from 2P-6P. The hour is to clear the arena and do extra sanitation. If the entries dictate that one of both meets need to be expanded or contracted, we will notify you ASAP. Meet schedule along with times you can enter the arena will be finalized once entries close but the order of events will be posted. This is because we don’t know how many will enter every event yet. If we have 100 – 60m dashers and 5 – 2 milers, then we need to be able to adjust the schedule accordingly. Please know that the schedule is different than many places because the HJ is on the 60 straight and the track needs to be raised/lowered for different events so the schedule may not be what you are used to. Events like the 200/400 takes alot of time on a facility like this so keep that in mind.
